Best Jewellery Software in India 2026 — Aurex ERP vs MARG vs Tally vs Munim

We compared the top jewellery software for Indian jewellers — Aurex ERP, MARG, Tally, and Munim — on billing, HUID, accounting, schemes, karigar workflow, pricing, and support. Honest, side-by-side review.

TL;DR

For most Indian jewellery shops, Aurex ERP is the best balance of price, jewellery-specific features (HUID, karigar workflow, 10+1 schemes), and bundled accounting. Tally stays the safer choice if your CA is the primary user. MARG suits very large multi-location enterprises that have a dedicated IT team. Munim works for tiny B2C shops that need the absolute cheapest GST invoicing and nothing else.

Walk into any jewellery shop in India and you'll see one of three things — a fat blue ledger, a desktop running 15-year-old MS-DOS software, or, increasingly, a cloud app on a laptop at the counter. The shift to cloud-based jewellery ERPs has accelerated since HUID became mandatory in April 2023, and the choices today range from ₹4,000-a-year invoice apps to ₹2-lakh-a-year enterprise installs.

We've spent the last 18 months building Aurex ERP, talking to jewellers from Karwar to Coimbatore to Jaipur, and trialling every major competitor. This is the honest comparison we wish existed when we started looking.

How we evaluated each software

Jewellery has rules other businesses don't. Any honest comparison has to score on at least these eight criteria:

  1. GST invoicing for jewellery — the 3% on metal + 5% on making split, place-of-supply CGST/SGST/IGST logic, e-invoice readiness.
  2. BIS HUID hallmark tracking — capture, print, search by 6-character HUID.
  3. Inventory by stock piece — every piece tracked individually with weight, hallmark, cost basis.
  4. Karigar / job-work workflow — issue raw gold, receive finished pieces, track scrap, pay making charges.
  5. Schemes — 10+1 monthly savings, installment tracking, mature redemption.
  6. Accounting — full double-entry with P&L, Balance Sheet, Cash Flow.
  7. Customer ledger — old-gold exchange, partial payments, statements you can WhatsApp.
  8. Pricing and support — what it actually costs per year and how fast support replies.

The four products below cover roughly 90% of the jewellery shops we've seen — Aurex ERP (us), MARG ERP (enterprise-leaning), Tally Prime (the accounting baseline), and Munim (the cheap-and-cheerful tier).

Aurex ERP — modern, jewellery-native

Best for: Single-shop and multi-branch retail jewellers who want every workflow under one roof.
Starting price: ₹9,990/year (Lite), most shops on the ₹29,900/year Growth plan.

Aurex is a cloud-first jewellery ERP built from scratch in 2025-26. Every screen is designed around the way an Indian jewellery shop actually runs — daily rates set once and propagated to every line, HUID captured at purchase entry and printed on the invoice, karigar issue/receipt with a full fine-metal ledger, 10+1 schemes wired into the customer ledger as a liability account.

What sets it apart:

  • Accounting is bundled free on the Growth and Enterprise plans — Chart of Accounts, manual journal entries, Trial Balance, P&L, Balance Sheet, Cash Flow, party ledgers, bank reconciliation, year-end close. Nobody else gives this without an extra ₹5,000–₹10,000/year.
  • Indian-FY-aware by default — invoice numbering, year-end close, opening balances all follow April-to-March cycles. No setup hassle.
  • Cloud-hosted in Mumbai (Supabase ap-south-1) — your data never leaves India. DPDPA-compliant by default.
  • WhatsApp-friendly — statements share with one click via wa.me links. Most other ERPs require copy-paste.
  • Mobile-first design — the dashboard, billing, and customer ledger work perfectly on a phone. Counter staff don't need a PC.

Where Aurex is still catching up: GST e-invoicing (IRP) is on the roadmap but not yet shipped (relevant only if your turnover is > ₹5 crore), and there's no offline mode — you need internet at the counter, which is rarely a problem in 2026 but worth noting.

MARG ERP — the enterprise legacy

Best for: Multi-location enterprises with dedicated IT staff and accountants who already know MARG.
Starting price: ~₹15,000/year (Basic) up to ₹1.5 lakh+ for the full Jewellery edition with all modules.

MARG has been around since the 1990s and remains a heavyweight in chemist, jewellery, and FMCG verticals. The Jewellery edition has every feature imaginable — purity-wise stock, sub-stock, lot tracking, party-wise rate cards, multi-godown, the works.

Strengths:

  • Mature feature depth — if you can name a jewellery workflow, MARG probably has it somewhere.
  • Strong CA acceptance in North India.
  • Good for big shops moving thousands of pieces a month.

Where it falls short:

  • Windows-only desktop interface with a UX that feels like 2005. The learning curve for non-technical staff is steep.
  • Cloud / web version is bolt-on, not native. Mobile barely works.
  • Pricing is opaque — the brochure number is rarely what you end up paying after modules, AMC, and user packs.
  • HUID support exists but requires extra setup.
  • You generally need a local installer + support engineer relationship.

Tally Prime — what your CA already knows

Best for: Jewellers who only need accounting and a basic invoice, and whose CA is the actual user.
Starting price: ₹22,500 one-time (Silver), ₹67,500 one-time (Gold), plus ~₹4,500/year AMC after year 1.

Tally isn't a jewellery ERP — it's accounting software that you can stretch into jewellery billing with workarounds. It's bulletproof for the books side, and almost every CA in India is fluent in it.

Strengths:

  • Industry-standard accounting. Your CA will thank you.
  • One-time licence, no annual subscription pressure.
  • Rock-solid stability.

Where it falls short:

  • No native jewellery workflow. No HUID, no karigar issue/receipt, no schemes, no per-piece weight management, no per-gram rates. You'll either run Tally alongside a separate billing tool or hire a TDL developer to bolt on workarounds.
  • Windows-only. No mobile, no cloud (without TallyOnCloud-style hacks).
  • GST jewellery split (3% + 5%) needs manual ledger setup.

Most jewellers we know who use Tally also pay for something else — Aurex, MARG, or a homemade Excel system — for the actual front-of-shop work.

Munim — cheapest GST billing

Best for: Tiny B2C jewellery shops billing < 50 invoices a month, focused on GST compliance and not much else.
Starting price: Free tier (limited), paid plans from ~₹4,000/year.

Munim is a lightweight billing-first SaaS aimed broadly at small Indian businesses. There's a jewellery template, GST is correct, and the entry barrier is near-zero.

Strengths:

  • Cheapest paid tier in the market.
  • Genuinely easy to start — 5 minutes to your first invoice.
  • Cloud-based and mobile-friendly.

Where it falls short:

  • Not a jewellery ERP. No stock pieces, no HUID, no karigar, no schemes.
  • Inventory tracking is basic SKU-level — doesn't model per-piece weight and hallmark.
  • Reporting is shallow. No real accounting.

Which one should you pick?

You're a single-counter retail jewellery shop doing ₹50 lakh to ₹15 crore annual turnover. Pick Aurex ERP. The Growth plan at ₹29,900/year covers every workflow including the full accounting module — you don't need a separate Tally licence or a karigar add-on. Onboarding takes a morning.

You're a multi-branch chain with 5+ locations and an in-house accountant. Aurex Enterprise (₹39,990/year) handles this well, but MARG is worth a serious look if your accountant already knows it. Try both — most vendors offer 7-day trials.

Your annual turnover is > ₹50 crore and you have a dedicated IT person. MARG full Jewellery edition or a custom Aurex contract. Don't pick a SaaS that doesn't have on-call support at this scale.

You only need GST billing and your CA does the rest in Tally. Munim is fine. But consider Aurex Lite (₹9,990/year) — for the same money you get inventory, customer ledgers, and reports too. The convenience pays for itself in the first month.

Your CA insists on Tally for books. Run Tally for accounting and Aurex (or MARG) for shop operations. Aurex's Tally Export feature pushes vouchers to your CA every month in Tally Prime format, so there's no double entry.

FAQs

Is cloud-based jewellery software safe?

If it's hosted in India (Aurex is in Mumbai), encrypted at rest and in transit, and backed up daily, yes. The bigger risk is on-premise software — a hard-drive crash can lose years of data without warning.

What about GST e-invoicing?

E-invoicing via the IRP becomes mandatory only above ₹5 crore turnover. Most retail jewellers are below this. Aurex has e-invoicing on the roadmap; MARG supports it; Tally has it (via a GSP add-on). Don't pay extra for it until your turnover requires it.

Can I switch software mid-year?

Yes. The main work is migrating opening stock and customer/supplier ledgers. Aurex has a bulk opening-stock import (CSV upload) and an opening-balances tool in Accounting — most shops migrate in a weekend.

Do these support old-gold exchange?

Aurex and MARG yes — both have native old-metal buy-back flows with fine-weight tracking and customer-credit settlement. Tally and Munim — you can workaround it but neither has a clean flow.

How do I evaluate before committing?

Free trials. Aurex offers 7 days, no card. MARG, Tally and Munim all have demo licences too. Run two real invoices, take a payment, generate a P&L, and you'll know within an afternoon.
